Transforming Education for the NEXT Generation of Leaders

What do we want America to look like in 10-20 years? Do we want our children to grow up and have the sense that they can become whoever they choose to through hard work, innovation, perseverance, intelligence and creativity? Do we want them to be able to be autonomous, build a life for themselves and have the opportunities that we have been afforded? Of course we do. In order to create an environment where this is possible, we need to invest in our young people and change the way we approach education.

Currently, many of our young people are not graduating high school. Of those who graduate, many are not attending college and of those who do go, many are not finishing. Of those who graduate college, many are not prepared for the careers that are available or they earn degrees in areas that are not linked to a profession. There are many American companies that want to hire our graduates but in fields that require technological and critical thinking skills (especially Math and Science) our college graduates are not qualified enough to get the job over a graduate from another country who is better educated and will work for less.

Whether we know it or not, we have a growing tsunami of future unemployable young people leaving our schools. These students will drop out of school or graduate into a world that has little to offer them. It is obvious to anyone who knows the facts about how technology has changed the world (outsourcing and automation) and what the jobs of the future are going to require (highly specialized education), that we need to focus some serious energy and money on better preparing our young people. That is the aim of this organization; to transform education so that our future generation has the chance to compete globally and lead our democracy.

What our young people need from education:

  • Focus on learning concepts and putting them into practical use instead of rote memorization and earning arbitrary grades.
  • A basic understanding of Math and Language Arts, in the primary grades, to use as a platform for further growth and learning.
  • Challenging and interesting courses in subject matter that they choose and that they are intrinsically motivated to learn.
  • Intelligent and passionate teachers who are experts in their field/subject matter and understand the link to the outside world.
  • Self directed, age appropriate education that allows them to be autonomous in the learning process but also get assistance.
